I saw the animation studio and what they produced and already you can predict the flop, I find it incredible that none of their works on mal reach an average score of 7 which does not bode well for anything

Best to keep expectations as low as possible. It being mediocre would be the best to hope for.

this is so fucking disappointing, I can already see the mediocre 7.01 score ffs. sakamoto fans should be grateful. wanted to kms when I saw the studio and staff news. what will be funny is the disappointment that fans, who don't know much about studio stuff, will feel when they will watch this shit
FUCK THE PRODUCTION COMMITTEE!

The trailer looks like they gonna give it standard seasonal anime type of treatment, as for studio I have a feeling we gonna have a bit better situation than berserk 2016 had but still not the dedicated studio bind for mushoku season 1 deal. Source material is decent but it could go bad, it's a 50/50 coin toss in my eyes...

I believe that the most likely scenario is that we will see a case similar to “A Returner's Magic Should Be Special”.

Its gonna suck and be one of those webtoon adaptations forgotten into oblivion. The animation is gonna be no better than a generic trashy isekai, they even made a long ass new title for it meaning theyre trying to sell it as a generic isekai.
Breaks my heart but it is what it is. It deserved mushoku tensei level treatment, and if it did it wouldve come out better cus i think its a much better story than MT, but it will never make even a dent on the community.

As the start is similar to MT, TBATE already needed madhouse level production quality to get hit. I was expecting people already calling it generic Isekai or MT clone after first season, but seeing fucking A-cat adapting and motonaga directing ruined my day completely. I would've preferred it to be adapted after 5 years rather then getting this treatment.
Last but not the least " The strongest king, what will he do in his second life?", this fucking japanese name clearly suggests they're gonna market it as a generic Isekai which is something a big IP like TBATE never deserved.

Tbate is not really popular in asia so i think it as been difficult to find a japanese studio that would accept to do an anime adaptation about something not popular in japan.

@HaiseDemon Vinland Saga, Pluto also aren't really popular in Japan. Since, COVID-19 Netflix is investing heavily into anime. Blue ray, DVD sales are heaving low impacts on anime success day by day.
So, Many stories which aren't popular in Japan are getting more and more adaptations as the day passes by.

@Ruhan Yeah you're right, but netflix can choose the studio they want for an anime adaptation. I don't think that's the case for crunchyroll.

RIP TBATE ANIME why don't big production studios pick up manhwas? Is there some kind of reason except for Japan and Korea hating each other? A-1 Adapation of Solo Leveing was kind of success though

@Thebossers I believe that part of the blame lies with the publisher of the original, it is worth remembering that they changed the illustrator because of money.

@HaiseDemon It wasn't Crunchyroll that bought the rights, it was Slow Curve, a production company that made few animes, most of them in 3D, it's Tapas' fault for selling the rights to anyone.

I know a lot of people will say it's the Japanese's fault, But the culprit is the publisher that had the rights to the original, which sold it to Slow Curve, a producer that must have paid very little, since they don't seem to have a lot of money like Aniplex, TOHO Or others.

@Hyperion248 I think I disagree, since MT would still be quite different from most isekai even with average animation, TBATE doesn't have many unique things, especially in the first 4 volumes of the novel.

The main producer is still Crunchyroll

@Itami98 Highly unlikely, as while the anime is made in Japan, the webcomic is made in America. Fingers crossed though ;)

@1000-MAT Let's face it, the production is what transported Mushoku tensei, if we want to look at the details even MT has nothing special compared to other generic isekai. TBATE may not have many unique things but what it does it does very well and above all it manages to entertain, which will not happen if a mediocre studio and a poor director massacre this adaptation

As far as this anime goes, I've heard some similarities with this in the starting portion only but both are fundamentally different? I've never read this series but hope the anime turns out to be alright (although the studio choice from first glance isn't by any means an inspiring one). Could very easily see this being another Tower of God S2 situation given the unknown studio for this season that took the helm, but hope that isn't the case.

@Mob_Psykos I just wish they'll be forced to put it since it has an anime adaptation now so it makes sense

@Itami98 I doubt it, Super Crooks is an adaptation of western comic and MAL only added the anime of it.

@Leon888 Even with how great the production was for season 1, the actual material I feel is better with the books. It does a lot more beyond a generic isekai character-wise, and actually fleshes out a lot of things well in detail.

@animejas Well, usually the source material is always considered better (especially in season 2 where they massacred some scenes), but the point is that anime is a more watched medium so if you can capture the audience with that you will have many more people knowing the work in question. As for the similarity between MT and TBATe, yes it is only the beginning that is very similar, but then TBATE takes a path of its own definitely better than that of MT.
Ps: I still don't understand how people can appreciate MT
